The folk-rock duo of guitarist/vocalists Denny Zager and Richard Evans made
their bid for temporary greatness with "In the Year 2525," a
post-apocalyptic vision of life in the future. Formed in Lincoln, NE, Zager
& Evans hit number one with "In the Year 2525" less than a month after its
release in summer 1969 (the single was written by Evans, allegedly in half
an hour). The LPs In the Year 2525 (Exordium & Terminus) and The Early
Writing of Zager & Evans followed in quick succession before the end of the
year, but the pair's chart run had finished. Food for the Mind, released in
1971, proved their final LP.
Enjoy.

The Very Best of Edith Piaf
Posted: 23 Apr 2019 11:34 AM PDT
https://allmusic-wingsofdream.blogspot.com/2019/04/the-very-best-of-edith-piaf.html
Édith Piaf (French: ; born Édith Giovanna Gassion; 19 December 1915 – 10
October 1963) was a French vocalist, songwriter, cabaret performer and film
actress noted as France's national chanteuse and one of the country's most
widely known international stars.
Piaf's music was often autobiographical and she specialized in chanson and
torch ballads about love, loss and sorrow. Her most widely known songs
include “La Vie en rose" (1946), "Non, je ne regrette rien" (1960), "Hymne
à l'amour" (1949), "Milord" (1959), "La Foule" (1957), "L'Accordéoniste"
(1940), and "Padam, padam..." (1951).
Since her death in 1963, several biographies and films have studied her
life, including 2007's Academy Award-winning La Vie en rose — and Piaf has
become one of the most celebrated performers of the 20th century.

Ian Gillan & The Javelins - Raving with Ian Gillan & The Javelins (2000)

https://allmusic-wingsofdream.blogspot.com/2019/04/ian-gillan-javelins-raving-with-ian.html
Having only been previously available as a fan club label release, the
long-forgotten debut ‘Raving With Ian Gillan & The Javelins’ includes 14
cover versions of 60s pop classics, all done the Javelins way and straight
out of the band’s 60s set list. Ranging from Chuck Berry to Cliff Richard
and The Coasters, these catchy songs transport you back into a time when
rock’n’roll music was at its prime. Now being re-released via earMUSIC /
Edel in a high quality digipak and for the first time also on vinyl,
‘Raving With Ian Gillan & The Javelins’ is a brilliant collection full of
classics guaranteed to make you move your feet.Ian Gillan & The Javelins,
at the time simply called The Javelins, were originally founded in the 60s.
Being influenced by American Pop, Soul, Country, Jazz and Blues artists
from across the pond, they soaked up the music of their heroes, added their
own stamp and went from town to town to perform their favourite songs in
front of a small but ever-growing audience – becoming local heroes in their
own right. In 1962, The Javelins gigged at Youth Clubs, gained residencies
in pubs, won a local talent contest, attracted screaming girls – what they
never did was to go into the studio to record an album. In fact, this
changed only in 1994, 30 years after their initial formation, when the band
set off to record ‘Raving With Ian Gillan & The Javelins’. They repeated
this initiative in 2018 when they recorded ‘Ian Gillan And The Javelins’ at
Chameleon Studio in Hamburg. This was the time when Ian Gillan discovered
himself, broke the chains and ‘found his voice’. The Javelins paved the way
for the frontman Ian Gillan who only a few years later wrote music history
with Deep Purple and now belongs to the most important and path-breaking
singers in the history of rock.

Wadie George Azzam, better known by his stage name Bob Azzam, (24 October
1925 in Cairo – 24 July 2004 in Monaco) was an Egyptian singer of Lebanese
ancestry. With his international hit song "Mustapha", Azzam achieved
success in France in the 1960s The track peaked at No. 23 in the UK Singles
Chart, spending fourteen weeks in that chart. Azzam had a degree in
electronic engineering, and has been regarded as the man behind the chamber
of echoes "Hors-studio" or "off-studio". Azzam began his career in Italy in
the late 1950s, with his band, singing in Italian and in English. In 1960,
he released two songs in France that were influenced by oriental music, "Ya
Mustafa" ("Chérie je t'aime, chérie je t'adore, como la salsa de pomodoro")
and "Fais-moi du couscous, chérie". The same year, he received the Grand
Prix du Disque for the song "Viens à Juan les Pins". After this era, his
success began to decline. However, Azzam continued his career by touring
with his orchestra, and opened his own night club in Geneva.
Listen and compare how Bob Azam sings no longer the old pop hit
about "Mustafa", but his own version of the rock-hit "The Last Time" by The
Rolling Stones!!!

Now something rare - my remastering from a big-beat 1964 vinyl album...Beat
Incorporated from Uppsala-Stockholm with the talented songwriter and
frontman Chris Corday recorded just one album in 1964 on Swedisc. Chris had
a lovely feeling for catchy melodies and “I Know A Secret” is one of his
finest songs. The recording took place in the legendary pop club Kingside
in Stockholm.Members: Chris Corday (alias for Christer Berglund) - vocals,
Kjell Matschke - bass, Lars Söderlind - guitar, Christer Jarlstrand - drums.

Album from 1964 by the Swedish beat group Beat Incorporated. They were a
very good band that only released one album on Swedisc, namely this one.
The frontman of the band, Christer Berglund more known as Chris Corday, was
quite successful as a song-writer, his songs being covered by The Spotnicks
(Please Say Yes and I Know a Secret), The Scorpions (Ann-Loise, Cheated and
You Treat Me Bad) and rather recently, Peter Berry and the Shake Set
(Please Say Yes), and probably more.

The Mascots - Your Mascots (1965) & Ellpee (1966)
Posted: 22 Apr 2019 09:57 PM PDT
https://allmusic-wingsofdream.blogspot.com/2019/04/the-mascots-your-mascots-1965-ellpee.html
The Mascots were a fairly successful Swedish sixties group, issuing around
twenty singles and two LPs between 1964 and 1968, and reaching the Swedish
Top Ten with five of their 45s. Although they wrote much of their own
material, most of their output was extremely imitative of British Invasion
pop, and they (like virtually all Swedish acts of the time) were unknown to
the English-speaking world. However, if you're on the hunt for lightweight,
but sometimes charming, pseudo-Merseybeat, the Mascots made some pretty
enjoyable (and some extremely awkward) tracks along those lines. In
particular, the ultra-catchy, close-harmony number "Words Enough to Tell
You" is a gem of the genre. As it made #6 in Sweden in 1965 and was
included in the best and most widely circulated compilation of Swedish
1960s rock (Searchin' for Shakes), it's the Mascots track non-Swedes are
most likely to be familiar with. Alas, none of their other recordings were
up to this level, although "A Sad Boy" (another Swedish Top Tenner) and a
few other mid-1960s cuts were fair mock Merseybeat. The 1966 single "I Want
to Live" was proof that they could get a little tougher and weirder, and
has been included on some compilations of rare "freakbeat, " but this
direction wasn't explored by the band on other efforts. The Mascots' grasp
of English (which they sang in exclusively) was slighter than that of some
other Swedish groups, and this—combined with some corny Nordic
folk-influenced Merseybeat on some early recordings, and some dull
middle-of-the-road pop-folk-rock on their late 1960s releases—makes a
compilation of their output erratic and hard to sit through in its entirety.
