Travis Wammack - Travis Wammack & Not For Sale (1972-1976 Southern rock

A guitarist, singer, and young instrumental genius from Memphis who cut his
first record at the tender age of twelve, Travis Wammack is one of the
great unheralded guitarists of rock & roll. A contemporary of Lonnie Mack,
Wammack was simply the fastest guitar player in a town bursting at the
seams with great guitarists. By the time he was 17, he appeared on the
national charts with "Scratchy," a speed-burner instrumental featuring
incredible distortion and dazzling technique. Several incredible singles
followed, but none charted. By the late '60s, Wammack had moved into
session work at the FAME Studios in Muscle Shoals, AL, playing on countless
hits. He continues recording and touring to the present day (recently
working as musical director for Little Richard), his hot and speedy guitar
chops intact. ~ Cub Koda, All Music Guide

Chango - 1975 Chango - 1976 Honey Is Sweeter Than Blood (Great US Latin
Rock - Wave)
Posted: 25 Aug 2013 08:33 AM PDT
http://silveradoraremusic.blogspot.com/2013/08/chango-1975-chango-1976-honey-is.html
Jamming. This is Santana IV, the culmination of heavy Latin groove rock.
This album has it all, the screaming Carlos guitar licks (and what chops!),
the swirling organ (do you like Hammond? Oh boy, get a doctor, you'll need
it), the speed freak machismo lead singer (messed up chicks swoon for this)
and of course those danceable and tranced-out rhythms (even this stiff
white guy noticed). The lyrics are just what you want from this kind of
album: Sex, life-in-the-ghetto, grade-school mysticism and well, sex.
Right off the bat, you're pulverized with "Fire Over Water" followed by the
eight minute "Walk on Hell". Do I really need to describe these tracks? Put
the environment, instrumentation, song titles and influences together and
you've got an aural vision. Many of the songs are catchy too - you'll be
humming them for days. "Caminando", "Solid Karma" and especially "Mira
Pa 'Ca" just have KILLER melodies. But where Chango excels is in the
instrumentals like the pounding "Bollo" and "Bembe" plus the
beautiful "Sacapa." But the best is saved for last. The nine minute title
track combines relentless energy, tuneful melodies and fiery instrumental
playing. It's awe-inspiring. Careful though, as you may find yourself in a
big heap afterwards. Of course the closing moments have a 15 year old's
imagination-girl-moaning-in-ecstasy bit. It's stupid but somehow fits.
How this album missed the big time is a mystery to me. Being 1975 perhaps
it was too late for the early Santana sound, but not too many groups went
down this road. I'm guessing that ABC records, not known for their
marketing muscle, had no idea how to promote it. There are few albums ever
that contains this kind of energy and instrumental virtuosity and combines
that with a strong melodic sense. A true masterpiece and a really
undiscovered gem. Fortunately the Akarma record company has done us all a
favor by releasing this on CD and an exact gatefold LP.
For Chango's second album, Honey is Sweeter Than Blood apparently lead
singer Pepe Gomez got too big for his britches and tossed all the members
except one, changed labels to Mercury and went soul-pop. The music isn't
even recognizable for those who love the first album and is a huge
disappointment. For Latin Soul music, it's not bad but not exactly what I'd
hoped for. I seriously doubt anyone will reissue this and it doesn't need
to be. Just go straight for the first album and never look back. " (From

Years ago my buddy Jeff played for me a track from the first Chango album
which I really enjoyed and added these guys to my wish list. A few weeks
back at a garage sale I found their second album for a buck !
....and what an excellent discovery this one is too !
I think their first is really the best of the two that I have heard but in
no way is this an album that you should pass on either. I would say this
one is more rock than latin and quite different than their debut album.
Best way i can describe this album is try to imagine "Camel"
meets "Santana" with a bit of perhaps a dash of "Malo".
Apparently the lead singer (Pepe Gomez) for this second album replaced all
but one of the band members to record this album.....so no wonder the vibe
and feel is so different from the first album. There are some outstanding
latin groove rock moments on this album! (By James Unger)

"From Ohio, this is predominantly a hard rock album with some soft passages
and psychedelic overtones. It is well worth investigating for its good
guitar work and vocals. The album is sought-after among collectors and even
the counterfeit is now hard to find, although Gear Fab are currently
working on a legitimate CD release, so watch this space!"About:"In the
psychedelic underground collectors scene the album got established as a
classic psych-hard-rock rarity. Their sound is strong and melodic with
awesome guitar/organ leads, solid bass and catchy vocals. Their natural
float creates a hypnotic atmosphere and makes you listen to this album
again and again. at all their musical spirit is closer to the end 60s
blend, than the recording year 1974 reflects, and sometimes they remind of
the early Bloodrock stuff."
The opening seven minute title track is a killer journey through local
underground guitar psych, and there's plenty more good stuff aboard
including some more lyrical moves. Underrated LP, solid all through, better
than many $1000 LPs. Great generic sleeve of eagle "still looking". The
band also had three non-LP 45s which are pretty good. [PL]Ohio was full of
obscure hard rock bands in the 70s, and it’s surprising how many of their
self-released albums have stood the test of time. Despite relatively simple
songs, this album has real power. The long title track is the highlight,
but the rest of the album comes close to the standard. The songs carry on a
bit too long, but the solid guitar/organ sound is backed up by an energetic
rhythm section and the overall feel of this album is strong, and gets
better with repeated listens. They don’t seem like they were particularly
talented, but they made the most of what they had. (Acid Archives)

Fleetwood Mac - The Roundhouse London - UK - April 24th 1970 - Fantastic
Sound (Wave)
Posted: 25 Aug 2013 03:27 AM PDT
http://silveradoraremusic.blogspot.com/2013/08/fleetwood-mac-roundhouse-london-uk.html
April 24, 1970 — In early April, when Fleetwood Mac returned to London
after an emotional European tour, Peter Green, devastated by drugs,
suddenly announced he would be leaving the group in late May. Clifford
Davis, the band’s manager, reluctantly began cancelling an upcoming British
tour set to begin the following month. Relationships in the stunned band
were strained, but the Mac still had to complete recording “The Green
Manalishi (With the Two-Prong Crown)”, Peter’s final studio effort with
them, as well as a B-side for the single. To underscore the troubled band
relationships, Jeremy Spencer opted out of these sessions to work on his
own album.Despite the high tension, the recording sessions at De Lane Lea
Studios in London, driven by the intense music, still had their moments.
Mick set up his new gong, surrounded by six microphones and miles of
cables, in the underground car park below the studio. When Mick banged his
gong, that car park vibrated like a giant bell with an eerie ringing that
reverberated off the walls. Talk about an echo! Another night, Carlos
Santana showed up, and it didn’t take long for a lengthy jam session to
start. In the past, Peter often hit upon brilliant melodic ideas in the
midst of jams like these, and on this night, he was showing Santana some
pretty impressive licks. At some point, Peter had introduced Santana to
“Black Magic Woman”, the hit that Carlos would record shortly thereafter
for his own band’s second album. Throughout the sessions, Clifford did his
best to convince Peter to stay, but Greenie steadfastly maintained his
intention to leave, seemingly happier now that his decision was public.
